Challenge

Toronto Radiology did not have an existing brand or dedicated digital presence. Patients and clinics had to navigate extensive directories on St. Michael’s Hospital or Unity Health websites to find the appropriate specialists.

The challenges of not having a dedicated digital presence include:

  • Parent institution’s sites were not designed to support referral-driven workflows
  • Parent institution’s sites did not clearly communicate the clinic’s part of a teaching hospital or its connection to academic research conducted through the University of Toronto.

As a result, both clinical expertise and academic leadership were underrepresented online.

Selected high-fidelity desktop mockups of the Toronto Radiology website.

Goal

The goal was to design and launch a dedicated digital platform that consolidated Toronto Radiology’s clinical services, academic initiatives, and research activity into a clear, accessible, and scalable experience.

This platform needed to support referral-driven workflows and accurately reflect Toronto Radiology’s role within a teaching hospital and academic research environment.

Design Rationale

My approach focused on creating a clear, standalone digital presence for Toronto Radiology while working within existing institutional brand constraints.

The website was structured around distinct user needs, with a clear separation between clinical and academic content to reduce discovery friction.

Clinical workflows were supported by surfacing key resources such as requisition forms, while academic sections were designed to support professor-led educational content.

Layouts prioritize hierarchy, whitespace, and scannability to support time-constrained clinicians, while modular page systems were designed to scale with future services, research, and educational content.

Outcome

A cohesive brand system aligned with the clinic’s parent organization was established, followed by the design and launch of Toronto Radiology’s first dedicated responsive website. The website consolidated clinical services, academic initiatives, and educational content into a single, cohesive experience, replacing reliance on external hospital directories for discovery.

The platform provides a scalable digital foundation for ongoing clinical operations, academic content, and future growth. Social media setup and supporting digital assets were also delivered to ensure a consistent presence across web and social platforms.
